Keven Smith, an agricultural science teacher at the Ben Barber Career Tech Academy, was one of seven teachers in Texas to receive an Honorary American Future Farmers of America Degree Award, according to a release by Mansfield ISD earlier this month.

The degree, according to the article, is given by the National FFA Organization to teachers who have created high-quality agricultural education programs which inspire and motivate their students to strive for success.

Smith has been with the district for two years, and has taught agricultural science for 28 years. He said he decided to come to MISD for its progressive culture and community involvement, according to the article.

“I’m very honored and humbled to receive the degree,” Smith said in the release. “Only 58 teachers were selected in the nation, and seeing myself surrounded by all the state representatives and executives who were present at the ceremony was truly an amazing experience.”
