The degree, according to the article, is given by the National FFA Organization to teachers who have created high-quality agricultural education programs which inspire and motivate their students to strive for success.
Smith has been with the district for two years, and has taught agricultural science for 28 years. He said he decided to come to MISD for its progressive culture and community involvement, according to the article.
“I’m very honored and humbled to receive the degree,” Smith said in the release. “Only 58 teachers were selected in the nation, and seeing myself surrounded by all the state representatives and executives who were present at the ceremony was truly an amazing experience.”
