The Grand Prairie Library hosts some fun events all summer long. And these events aren't just for kids, either!

One of their more recent additions is the Walking Words Club. Though they aren't hosting these events for the rest of the summer, it's good to keep an eye out for when they start back up again in the fall.

Aerial Hobson is the Outreach Coordinator, and the person that leads this book club. She brings the Playaways (audio books) to Mountain Creek Park, as well as snacks and water. Once everyone has chosen their book they all walk the trails, including Aerial.

We reached out to learn a little bit more about the book club to Ana Enriquez, a City of Grand Prairie's Public Information Officer, who answered a few questions for us.

Tell us a little bit about the Walking Words Book Club. When and how did it get started?

We got the idea from an article about the Chicago library trying this book club. We started it in March of this year.

What does the meeting look like? What can someone expect?

People just meet at the pavilion at Mountain Creek Lake Park, dressed in walking gear. We allow a 5-10 minute intro and time to choose books and then we start walking.

Can anyone join?

Anyone and everyone is welcome and you do not have to sign up anywhere just show up ready to walk.

Are there any other free events that we should know about?

All summer we will have free events to keep the whole family busy from nerf war to calligraphy class to the zoo right inside the library. All of the events are posted on our website, www.gptx.org/library.

Anything else we should know about?

We partner with another Grand Prairie organization GetFitGP and promote the book club this way so people who are already wanting to be healthy know of all the options they have. The library offer free Zumba and Latin dance classes so our audience for the book club is typically the people that come for Zumba and Latin Dance.
