New Prescription Card Program for Arlington Residents
The City of Arlington has a new program to offer savings on prescription drugs to residents who are without health insurance, a traditional benefits plan, or have prescriptions that are not covered by insurance.
The Prescription Discount Card is made available to residents by the city in collaboration with the National League of Cities (NLC) and is made possible through Arlington’s membership in NLC.
The card is free to all Arlington residents, regardless of age, income or existing health insurance. By using this card you may save an average of 20 percent off the regular retail price of prescription drugs at participating pharmacies.
To discover the savings and learn more about the program, visit www2.caremark.com/nlc/ to access the program online and print a card, check drugs prices and locate participating pharmacies. Or for more information call 888-620-1749.
Arlington Offers Homebuyer Assistance Program
If you have long dreamed of becoming a homeowner, but just need a bit of a boost in order to make your down payment, you’re in luck—the city may be able to lend a hand.
The City of Arlington sponsors a down payment and closing cost assistance program for qualified first-time homebuyers with modest incomes (a family of four with a household income of no more than $54,650, for example).
The Arlington Homebuyers Assistance Program (AHAP) offers a no-interest, deferred loan of up to $7,500 for qualified first-time buyers, and the loan is forgivable over five years if the borrower continues to reside in the home.
Up to $10,000 of assistance may be available for households with a qualified Social Security Income recipient, or for borrowers purchasing homes in the city’s Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy Area (NRSA), located primarily in the 76010, 76011, 76012 or 76013 zip codes.
In an effort to contribute to long-term sustainable homeownership in our community, applicants are required to complete a series of homeowner education classes, offered by program administrator Tarrant County Housing Partnership, that cover topics like budgeting and home maintenance.
“There are families in our community that are in a situation where they have the income to afford mortgage payments and can qualify for the mortgage, but they just don’t have the savings to get over the hurdle to provide the down payment and cover closing costs,” says David Zappasodi, executive director of the City’s housing authority.
Zappasodi says that funds are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so residents are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
“Current low mortgage rates and affordable home prices, combined with the assistance offered by AHAP, make this an excellent opportunity to fulfill someone’s dream of owning a home,” he says.
Isle at Watercrest Begins Art Program
The staff of Isle at Watercrest–Mansfield, the all-new stand-alone comprehensive health services community, recently learned how to facilitate water color painting with their memory care and dementia residents. This class is part of the “Memories in the Making” program created by the Alzheimer’s Association. This special program allows residents to recall precious memories through hands-on activities like water coloring.
“Our staff is really excited about this new program because it gives them an opportunity to participate in a fun activity with our residents and also learn more about their lives,” says Cindy Frazee, community life director, Isle at Watercrest—Mansfield. “After our staff took the instruction class, they immediately started working with the residents on water coloring. It has proved to be highly enjoyable and relaxing for all.”
The “Memories in the Making” project first began in 1986 when Alzheimer’s Association Board Member Selly Jenny discovered how much dementia patients could reveal about themselves through art. According to Jenny, every picture that is created is a visual representation of the feelings and emotions trapped inside the dementia patient, which can’t come out in other ways. When the painting is complete, it brings happiness and a feeling of accomplishment to the artist. These paintings capture the person that is still deep inside of them.
The staff of Isle at Watercrest—Mansfield is excited to see what memories are shared in the future, and how this program will benefit the health and memory of their residents.
Isle at Watercrest—Mansfield is located on the Watercrest at Mansfield campus at 200 East Debbie Lane in Mansfield. For more information, call (888) 765-5974, or visit www.islewatercrest.com.
Mooyah Opens in Mansfield
The newest burger restaurant recently opened at 3300 East Broad Street. “Many of our guests in Mansfield love MOOYAH but were having to go to nearby counties for their favorite burgers, and now we’re in their back yard,” says franchisee Johnny Collins, who also owns a MOOYAH restaurant in Colleyville that opened last year. Work on a third restaurant in Collins’s hometown of McAllen has also begun.
“The brand began expanding around Dallas, but now we’re spreading out throughout the state and beyond,” says Collins. “MOOYAH has a loyal following, and fans love that we’re the new neighborhood hangout!”
A big part of what makes MOOYAH so craze-worthy is the million customizable ways each guest can enjoy his or her burger. Grilled patties come in 100 percent fresh, never frozen American beef, Jennie-O turkey, or veggie along with a choice of nine delicious sauces and unlimited veggies. Better burger buns are also a big part of the experience. Guests can go with an ice burger, a patty wrapped in crunchy, hand leafed lettuce, or choose from white or whole wheat buns that are baked fresh daily at each restaurant.
