2013 Mansfield Reads at the Mansfield Public Library

Apr 15, 2013 04:16AM ● Published by Michelle Ames

My kids and I love to read, and there is something exciting about sharing a book together.  When they were younger, we would always make time to all cuddle together on the couch and read.  We would get lost in the Wind in the Willows and down on Wilbur's farm.  Now that they are older, it's a special occasion when we can sit down and share a book, but we still enjoy reading the same books on our own time, and talking about them over dinner or on the way to school.

Mansfield Public Library and the Friends of Mansfield Public Library take this same concept, but share it with the entire community!  In it's tenth year, Mansfield Reads gets the whole town reading and talking about one book!  The library holds special programs and activities to coincide with this annual April event.

What makes the 2013 event special is that this year they have actually chosen two titles by the same author, What Dogs Teach Us and What Cats Teach Us.  Assumedly chosen not to offend any cat or dog people, the books give words of wisdom and life skills from the viewpoint of our favorite family pets.

The author, Glenn Dromgoole, has written several books in this series, also including What Horses Teach Us and What Puppies Teach Us.  As a native of Abilene, TX. his works also include several books about the state, including 100 Great Things About Texas and Aggie Savvy: Practical Wisdom from Texas A&M and even a children's book, Good Night Little Texan.

On Friday, April 19th, the library has scheduled a Meet the Author and Book Signing at the library.  The event is FREE but reservations are required.  Click HERE to visit the Friends of the Mansfield Public Library's website to make your reservation online, and enjoy an evening of books and friendly banter.  Also, be sure to follow the Friends of the Mansfield Public Library on facebook for all their upcoming events!

In celebration, Barnes and Noble will also be selling Mr. Dromgoole's books online at BN.com and making a donation to Mansfield Library with each purchase from April 19th -26th.  Please use the code, 11074457 when placing your order.

When not reading or wondering what my dogs can teach me, I can be found writing on my blog at Having Fun in the Texas Sun, a Texas Family Travel Blog.
