National Night Out

National Night Out is an annual nationwide event which started in 1984 in an attempt to unify communities again crime. In the prior years more than 50 neighborhoods throughout Mansfield have participated.

Mansfield Police and Fire have been involved and the Mansfield Police website lists their goals as:

Neighbors getting to know and socialize with each other with the goal that the more they get to know each other, the more likely they are to watch out for each other. This would enable them to know what activity is normal and what is suspicious, and to take action. They are encouraged to meet neighbors surrounding their homes by completing forms with contact information.

Mansfield PD will ask residents to focus on crime prevention that results in their own neighborhood crime watch. The more neighbors get to know each other, the more they look out for each other. By this, it allows neighbors to share information and will aid in their own crime watch prevention on keeping homes, neighborhoods, and the city safe.

We believe in the two focuses we will be able to meet the Goals and objectives of National Night Out.
    1. Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
    2. Generate support for and participation in local anti-crime efforts;
    3. Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships; and
    4. Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back!
