Nov/Dec 2014 Issue - Christmas Cheer

Nov 17, 2014 03:29PM ● By Kevin
The fall season went by awfully fast, didn't it? No worries - that just means the holidays are right around the corner! Just in time for Thanksgiving and the Christmas season, we bring to you the winter edition of Mansfield Magazine. However, the holidays are not our sole focus. We start by spotlighting Mansfield ISD educator Donna Bruton, founder of the Southwest Arlington Geocachers group. The hobby has developed tremendously over its near-15-year lifespan (click here for our web-exclusive geocaching guide), and Bruton brings local flavor to the treasure hunt.

Speaking of flavor, Carol Ritchie joined us for another installment of Cookin' With Carol - this time preparing hot tamales. As the holidays are a time for family traditions, Carol suggests tamale making for those looking to spice up the kitchen and bring the family together each and every year. We also prepared an online exclusive, which gives some great ideas for food and drink pairings once you're ready to sit and chow down on your fresh, hot tamales.

Are you looking to wow your neighbors this holiday season with your light display? Look no further, as Laurie Fox visited with many local specialists: Safety and beautification tips included! We hope that you will share your Thanksgiving and Christmas decorating masterpieces by sending us your photos. Click here to contact us and submit your favorites, or post them to our Facebook page. You could be featured in our holiday decorating gallery this December!

Our Local Flavor piece this season features Cafe Sicilia, owned by Fernando Nogueira and Joe Seyedmorteza. The duo also owns the five Pancho's Mexican Buffet restaurants in the area. Nogueira was kind enough to sit down and take some time to answer a few questions about his South Arlington taste of Tuscany. We highlight all kinds of businesses in the area. Did you know a local toy store recently celebrated four years in business? Click here to read the full story.

The Your Neighbor feature in this edition highlights Jules Cox and Lazy Pi Farms. She shares a lot of fun and interesting facts and stories about her farm and her life. We even posted a web-exclusive extension of the interview for you to enjoy.

Browse around for articles and information on everything you need to know about the local community and let us know what you’d like to see more of!
