Mansfield ISD's third annual Toys for Tots event was record breaking, according to district director of communications and marketing Abby Cloud.
The unofficial count is 26,000 toys donated by the schools and community, and more than $6,500.
The event was held on Wednesday, Dec. 10, from 5 to 10:30 p.m. at the Mansfield ISD Center for the Performing Arts. FOX 4 was on site to capture the magic of the evening, as joyful community members flooded the big event. According to Cloud, the festivities were kicked off by a student/staff parade, followed by photos with Santa, a giant snow tubing hill, a bounce house and obstacle course, live reindeer, food trucks, more than 30 onstage student performances, and a variety of activities for kids and families.
Schools across the district are in friendly competition. As of Tuesday night, the district had collected 17,000 toys, meaning 9,000 more were collected the night of the big event.
