High-achieving juniors in Mansfield ISD are now guaranteed admission to the University of North Texas (UNT). Through UNT’s Eagle Advantage program, MISD juniors who rank in the top 20 percent of their class will earn automatic admission to UNT.
“It’s always exciting to open new educational opportunities to our students,” said Darrell Sneed, MISD’s associate superintendent of curriculum, instruction and accountability. “The Eagle Advantage program will be a great addition to our college readiness initiatives, and it will allow our top-ranked students to gain admission to a top-rated college in the DFW metroplex.”
To be accepted into the Eagle Advantage program, qualified students need to apply to UNT and submit SAT or ACT scores. Qualified students also need to graduate with a recognized college preparatory diploma and satisfy Texas Success Initiatives (TSI) requirements.
“We are so proud to welcome Mansfield ISD to the Eagle Advantage Program, and we can’t wait for these students to experience the world-class education UNT offers,” said UNT President Neal Smatresk.
Each high school involved in the Eagle Advantage program will receive a $1,000 renewable scholarship to award to one junior who is part of Eagle Advantage. UNT will have staff members on the high school campuses on a regular basis to assist students with admissions and financial aid applications.
This year’s seniors who rank in the top 20 percent will be grandfathered into the program; however, after Fall 2015, guaranteed admission will only apply to juniors.
