Superintendent Dr. Jim Vaszauskas is scheduled to return to work on June 16 after having a successful surgery, according to an email sent by Mansfield ISD yesterday.

Dr. Vaszauskas went on medical leave to remove a thymoma cancer that had returned. He detailed it in a letter to the community in April.

The surgery went extremely well, according to the email, and the doctors said the cancer has been completely removed with no need for radiation treatments.

“My family is humbled by the support of the MISD community,” said Dr. Vaszauskas. "I have no doubt that your prayers and positive thoughts are why the medical team no longer feels that radiation is necessary. Thank you.”

Dr. Mark Jackson has been serving as acting superintendent while Dr. Vaszauskas is away.

Dr. Vaszauskas said the recovery process has been a smooth one, and he looks forward to returning on June 16 and getting back to doing what he loves.
