Mansfield's Padilla Wins Cash in PBA Mixed Doubles Contest

Over the weekend, Mansfield's own Brenda Padilla took part in the PBA-PWBA XTRA Frame Striking Against Breast Cancer Mixed Doubles tournament, held at Palace Lanes in Houston. The finals took place on Sunday, with Padilla placing 16th alongside partner Xeno Garcia, of Fort Worth. The duo won $1,300 for bowling a 4,920. Final match play standings include 12 games of play.

The tournament also serves as a fundraiser in support of The Rose, a Houston-based organization that helps women who can’t afford breast care treatment or mammograms, as well as the Huntsman Group, a cancer research based in Utah. More than $74,000 was raised this year. Over its 16-year history, the tournament has raised more than $725,000 to fight breast cancer.

Padilla was a member of Team USA in 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011, and currently competes in the PWBA. Her milestones according to the PWBA:
  • One gold medal (mixed doubles) and one bronze medal (national all-events) at the 2010 Pan American Bowling Confederation Championship of the Champions
  • Three gold medals (singles, doubles, all-events) at 2010 Federation Cup
  • Four gold medals (mixed doubles, team, team all-events, women’s all-events) and two bronze medals (singles, women’s doubles) at 2008 Tournament of the Americas
  • Third at 2011 USBC Team USA Trials - 2010 USBC Team USA Trials champion
  • 2009 USBC Open Championships doubles champion (with Stephen Padilla; set record with 1,566)
  • Shot 300 on the way to a ninth-place singles finish at 2009 USBC Open Championships
  • Set a new record in 2009 for high all-events total by a woman at the USBC Open Championships with 2,132
  • Fifth at 2009 USBC Queens
  • 2006 Florida Women’s State Tournament all-events champion
  • 2005 Orlando City Tournament team and doubles champion
  • Member of 1995 and 1997 Intercollegiate Bowling Championships women’s national champion (Nebraska)
  • 1995 and 1997 Collegiate Masters champion
  • 1997 Linds World Impex Scholarship Winner
  • 1996-97 National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association All-America first team
  • Member of 1995 Brunswick World Team Challenge-Baltimore champion
  • Three-time Academic All-American
