Looking to bring home a furry friend? Mansfield Magazine picks out pets in need of homes in and around Tarrant County, courtesy of Petfinder. Check out these six and let us know if you adopt one. We'd love to hear your story!

For more information on any of these pets and/or to adopt, head over to, enter your zip code and search by type, breed, age and gender.

Leo (American Staffordshire Terrier Mix; pictured above) - My name is Leo and I was part of a cruelty seizure. When the nice ACO's picked me up, I was starving to death and in very poor condition but hey, look at me now! I am ready o find a forever home. I am sweet and people friendly but I need to be an only pet. I am house trained and eager to please though and can't wait for someone to love me. Won't you please come and meet me.

Mr. Wigglesworth (Chihuahua Mix) - My name is Mr. Wigglesworth. I was brought into the shelter as a stray. I am so very nervous here in the shelter but I am starting to warm up to everyone. I do enjoy being held and cuddled and I would love to find a person to call my own. I am a little shy though so a quiet house might be best for me. Please give me a chance to show you what a lovable little guy I can be.

Both dogs currently reside at
Mansfield Animal Care & Control - Mansfield, TX.

Lulu (Domestic Medium Hair) - Lulu is a 6 year old female. She is fully vetted and ready for her new home! Lulu has beautiful green eyes and is a super friendly girl. For more information, please e-mail us at

Desi. Photo courtesy of

Desi (Siamese) - Desi is a year old Lynx point Siamese male. He has been looking for his forever home-could that be with you? Desi is the sweetest, most loving cat you will ever meet. He is very affectionate! For more information, please e-mail us at

Both cats currently reside at
Averting CAT-astrophe - Mansfield, TX.

Onyx. Photo courtesy of

Onyx (Arabian & Paso Fino Mix) - Onyx was rescued from a kill pen where he was about to be shipped to a zoo to be used as food for the large cats.

He has a delicate face with a tiny muzzle much like an Arabian. Our Equine vet feels Onyx may be a cross between an Arabian and possibly a Peruvian Paso or Paso Fino. He does not appear to be gaited but has the beautiful, floaty movement of the Arab breed.

Since Onyx was a rescue his age is a guess but our vet feels he is around 8 months. He evidently was not handled much before coming to rescue, we are working with Onyx to teach him that people are good! He will need further handling and training in his new home.

Onyx is spunky and is the dominant one in our herd of rescued horses.

He would be best suited for someone with young horse training and handling experience OR someone who works closely with a trainer (we can recommend some excellent trainers).

The adoption fee is $350 and he will come with current vaccinations, deworming hoof trim microchip and Coggins test.

Onyx lives at Cappy and Riff's Friends Rescure.
