Last week, the City of Kennedale and Kennedale Chamber of Commerce held a groundbreaking for new development in the Town Center area, located right on Kennedale Parkway. Guests included Commissioner Andy Nguyen’s office staff, Senator Joe Barton’s staff, and most of the Kennedale City Council, Economic Development Corp, and the Chamber board.
This area is essentially downtown Kennedale, as it’s home to our city hall, library, police station, and Town Center Park, where we host Brickworks Festival, the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, and pretty much every major city event.
The commercial part of Town Center took new ownership last year, and since has seen tremendous growth and new life. We’ve gone from a nearly empty strip of space to opening a family hair salon (Zaney Cutz), a dentist's office (Kennedale Family Dentistry) and now, with this new groundbreaking, in just a few months we’ll welcome a Dickies BBQ Restaurant.
Chicken Express, already in town, will be moving into the new building as well so their current site can be torn down and they can serve with state-of-the-art facilities. The same building will also house a Bar & Grill, owned by the same family as the new Dickies, that has not yet been named but is sure to be a hit, as it will be the only bar in Kennedale!
Hughes Commercial, the new development owners, are also starting construction on a second building at the same time. It will be 6,600 sq. ft. and available for lease or purchase.
The construction is expected to take about 4-5 months, weather permitting, and there is a lot of excitement see new life in the old downtown.
Building 7, which will house the Dickies BBQ Restaurant, Chicken Express and Bar & Grill, will also have a 1,400 sq. ft. event space that can be reserved by the public for parties and more.
It will be accessible for both Dickies BBQ and the Bar & Grill for overflow seating or private parties and events, with options for both in house or private catering.
