The Timberview Girls' Varsity Basketball team has wowed Mansfield this season. On March 4th, they took their season all the way to the State Championship playoffs, losing only by 2 points to Canyon High School, and marking themselves as State Runners-Up.

We were interested in the season way before they went so far into the playoff season. They had an outstanding Winter Break, and showed a lot of promise. We decided to reach out to their coach, Kit Martin, to learn a little bit more about their exciting and successful season.

Below are a few questions we asked earlier this year, before they reached their 37-3 season and undefeated home reign.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Did you also play basketball in high school? How long have you been with the Timberview girls?

This is my fifth year at Timberview High School. I played basketball, ran track and cross country and was in the band at Carthage High School, then went to the University of North Texas where I played basketball to received my degree.

Tell us a little bit about this season. How have the Timberview girls been doing?

We have been fortunate to have had a lot of success this year at 27-2 currently. This comes on the heels of a 33-1 season last year.

Are there any players that are having a standout season?

Chennedy Carter, our Point Guard, has been named to the McDonalds All American squad and will play in the national game in late March on ESPN. Taylah Thomas, a 6'1" senior forward has had an outstanding year so far averaging 9.4 points per game and 7.2 rebounds per game.

Also playing great on the interior for us this year, Lauryn Thompson, 6'0" junior, is averaging 10.2 ppg and 6 boards per game.

Are any players moving on to play in colleges next year?

So far, Chennedy Carter has signed with Texas A&M. Taylah Thomas, Trelynn Tyler and Jaryanna Ward are all getting college looks as seniors and hope to sign in the April signing period.

What has been one of the most memorable moments this year so far?

Having a lot of expectations for ourselves for this season, it has been rewarding to see us grow as a team with the pressure and adversities that come with a very competitive season always seem to bring. We have had multiple team members step up at various times in crunch situations to help lead us to victory.

How can we stay updated?

Congratulations on the great season, Timberview Wolves!
