Mansfield's Dirty Job Brewing Company: It's a "Dirty Job & Someone's Gotta Brew It"

Nov 21, 2017 08:14PM ● By Melanie Heisinger
Dirty Job Brewing Company is a new local Mansfield brewery that opened earlier this year in July.

We featured them in our article "Newly Opened Eateries in the Mansfield-Area & Beyond to Be Excited About," but we wanted to learn more about their story, as well as their brews.

Swiftly making an impact in the Mansfield beer scene, how exactly did the new brewery come to fruition? According to owner Derek Hubenak, Dirty Job Brewing started as a hobby at his home.

Hubenak began as a volunteer at Rahr and Sons Brewing in the early 2000s. He learned about craft beer and then spent some years reading about it while going through graduate school. He bought a home brewing kit years later and began a hobby at he and his wife (and brewing company co-owner) Lashawn Hubenak's home in Arlington.

According to Hubenak, "My wife, Lashawn is a partner and works her day job as a Quality and Document Control Specialist for a nutraceutical company in Lewisville. She takes care of office work, merchandise organization, tap room service, and general cleaning. She also is the "eyes" behind much of the artwork and designing in the tap room."

His best friend, also co-owner, Justin Watson began helping to brew, and eventually the three decided to be a home brew team. They began entering contests around the state and winning awards. It was then that Derek decided to put his MBA to good use and get a business plan together.

Soon, the three were rolling up their sleeves and moving walls at their location in Historic Downtown Mansfield! Thus Texas Brew Works, LLC. DBA: Dirty Job Brewing was on the way!

We got in touch with owner Derek Hubenak to get the inside scoop on Dirty Job Brewing, as well as what to look forward to from them in the future.

What's one of the most popular brews so far?

Our top sellers so far are The Short Stack maple pecan porter, Better Off Red an Irish red ale fermented on graham crackers, and the Agave Davida blueberry agave wheat.

What's one of the most memorable moments you've had while working there (so far)?

So far every moment has been memorable.

I know it sounds like a broad and cryptic answer so let me clarify: Because we have done everything effectively on our own from the ground up and didn't hire out people to do the Dirty work (pun intended) for us, every single moment on our path so far has been a dear memory.

Now, we are hosting multiple dedicated volunteers we hope to hire on soon. They work extremely hard and spend their spare time helping us achieve our dream.

What can someone expect while visiting the brewery?

Hopefully good small batch beer! We generally have 16 different beers pouring and can go up to 20.

You can expect a family-friendly environment, cozy atmosphere, and warm Mansfield hospitality. We host many events such as Brews and Brains Trivia on Friday nights and Hair of the Dog Yoga and Beer on Saturday mornings. Board games are amassed in our back rooms for play and folks can rent out our party rooms or the entire brewery for special events.

Pup people can bring their doggos along and chill on the front porch or back patio while we take care of them and their little (or big) ones!

Are there any upcoming events, etc that we should know about?

The big one will be our official Grand Opening on Saturday December 16th with live music from Scott Welmaker and Hambone Radio, succulent BBQ from Big D BBQ, drink specials, give-aways, and more!

We will be releasing 3 new beers on Saturday December 2nd for the Mansfield Hometown Holidays Parade. Witherspoon Bourbon barrel aged The Short Stack, and both Barrel-Aged and non aged You Better Watch Stout (our holiday seasonal).

We will be hosting a Build Your Beer Garden event on November 28th, as well.

Anything else we should know?

Just how much we sincerely appreciate all of our patrons and community. Our industry friends have been extremely helpful and welcoming, as well. I tell people all the time that when we leave our house we drive on a red carpet all the way to Dirty Job Brewing. Because of that loyalty and commitment from our customers and community partners, we are looking to expand into a larger system soon and possibly a canning line.

You can find our brews out around town at places such as World of Beer Arlington, Fish City Grill Mansfield, Intrinsic Smokehouse and Brewery in Garland and even The Plaid Turtle down in Hillsboro!

Please keep up with us at, or on our FacebookTwitter, and Instagram! "It's a Dirty Job and Someone's Gotta Brew It!"
