Pure Country 25th Anniversary Celebration
A fundraising event for Downtown Mansfield and Discover Historic Mansfield
It has been 25 years since the release of the movie PURE COUNTRY, starring George Strait, and the fans of the movie and the music remain faithful and enthusiastic! It still ranks in the 10 best country music movie and the soundtrack remains as Strait’s bestselling studio album. This event is a celebration of the movie, the music, the new musical (debuting in May) and it is also a fundraiser for Downtown Mansfield, Inc. (DMi), a local non-profit organization. The PURE COUNTY 25th Anniversary Celebration will take place on Friday, April 14th, 2017, 6PM, at the Western Kountry Klub, 5728 Lake View Road, just south of Mansfield on Hwy 287. The Western Kountry Klub is an authentic Texas country dance hall where a portion of the movie was filmed. Doors will open at 6PM, the music & dancing will end at 11PM. Tickets are $50, available online at HistoricMansfield.tix.com. The Celebration will be filmed for a special presentation on The Country Network. Entertainment will be provided by noted singer-songwriter Jim Lauderdale and by Steve Dorff, who wrote several of the songs made famous by the movie. Afterward, the Mack & Dyan Band will carry the boot-scooting’ until closing time. There will be a silent auction, featuring an autographed movie script, guitars, posters and paraphernalia. Playwright and screenwriter Rex McGee, author of the PURE COUNTRY movie, will share stories about the cast and production of the movie. Steve Dorff will share about the new musical, which will debut locally this June. Actor Julie Johnson will be joining the Celebration as well. Julie’s mom played the grandmother in the film, and Julie will play the same role on the upcoming musical.
