Hip Hop Cowboys

Family-friendly rodeo is what happens when you combine a Texas tradition with urban beats

Hip Hop Cowboys, the nation’s first event to combine the extreme sport of rodeo with a celebration of hip hop music, debuts in Cowtown on Oct. 21, 2017, at the Will Rogers Coliseum in Fort Worth. The first rodeo in the U.S. to include a hip hop DJ, Hip Hop Cowboys redefines the rodeo experience with current urban music. “Hip Hop Cowboys is about living life in the way that you can here in Texas,” said Damon Leffall, CEO and founder of Hip Hop Cowboys. “This event opens a lot of eyes and minds to rodeo and also to new musical artists that are taking the best of the south, from our music to our sports, and remixing it in their own way. The event is non-stop entertainment. You can’t miss it.” Live performances by rapper Slim Thug and blues and zydeco artist Vickie Baker will complement the non-stop rodeo action, and the event will be hosted by model and personality Deelishis, best known as the winner of VH1’s reality TV show, Flavor of Love 2. In a twist only found at Hip Hop Cowboys, professional bull rider Craig Jackson, famous for his fearless bull riding as well as his music, is back by popular demand as the only “rapping bullrider” on the circuit. With a DJ spinning hit tunes from a variety of genres – hip-hop, R&B, gospel, blues and more – the extreme sport of rodeo takes center stage. Cowboys and cowgirls from across the region compete in rodeo events including: bull riding, team roping, ladies barrel racing, tie-down roping, steer wrestling and the ever-popular relay races, a fast-paced rodeo event that thrills the crowd with its non-stop action of riders on horseback racing each other around the arena in relay style. Hip Hop Cowboys is an open rodeo that will feature the top 10 best competitors in each event. Kids in the audience can participate in the fun with a calf scramble and the wild, bucking sport of mutton bustin’. Hip Hop Cowboys will be held at the Will Rogers Coliseum at 3401 W. Lancaster in Fort Worth on Saturday, Oct. 21. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. with a grand entry rodeo parade. Ticket prices for Hip Hop Cowboys start at $20 for adults and $10 for children aged three to 12. Tickets are on sale now on or by calling (972) 839-2802.
