DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day
Residents may turn in unused or expired prescriptions and the DEA will safely dispose of the medication turned in. Officers will be in front of the PSB and participants can drive up to turn in their prescriptions.
The Drug Take Back initiative was started to provide citizens with a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, said Captain David Griffin with the Mansfield Police Department.
“It is important to keep these drugs from being flushed down the toilet and into our water system,” Griffin said. “But we also want to keep prescription drugs from getting into the wrong hands. We have an opportunity with this program to educate the public about the potential for abuse with medications.”
The Mansfield Police Department has a permanent disposal unit in the lobby of the Public Safety Building, accessible to anyone from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
