Mansfield Museum & Heritage Center to honor Fire Department

Begins on July 17th - view many items donated by the Fire Department, some pertaining the Red Ball Gas Explosion that occurred July 31, 1968

Assistant Chief Eric Peterson and the Museum Committee have coordinated an exhibit of several items both donated and on loan from the Mansfield Fire Department to the Museum. July 31, 2018, marks the 50th anniversary of the tragic Red Ball Gas Explosion that occurred off Business Hwy 287 near Kennedale. Many fire departments and volunteer fire departments, including Mansfield, arrived to help extinguish the blazing fire, and lives were lost in the attempt. In partnership with the Mansfield Fire Department, the museum will have items on display. An ornament to honor the Mansfield Volunteer Fire Department, 1901-2006, will be available for purchase.
